The Magic of Homemade Bread
For the bread dough:
1 cup (100 ml) warm milk
1 glass (100 ml) lukewarm water
1/2 glass (50 ml) vegetable oil
1 tablespoon (20 grams) granulated sugar
1 tablespoon (10 grams) active dry yeast
1 teaspoon (8 grams) salt
4 cups (480 grams) flour
For the topping:
1 red bell pepper, finely chopped
1/2 yellow bell pepper, finely chopped
1 tomato, diced
1 green tomato, diced
6 green bell peppers, finely chopped
Optional: Fresh parsley or dill, garlic, or grated cheese for extra flavor
Instructions
Activate the yeast: In a large bowl, combine the lukewarm milk, lukewarm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let stand for 5 to 10 minutes, until the mixture is frothy. Knead the dough: Add the vegetable oil, salt, and 3 cups of flour. Mix, then gradually add the remaining flour while kneading on a floured surface for 8 to 10 minutes until you obtain a smooth and elastic dough.
First rise: Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
Prepare the filling: Combine the diced vegetables, season with salt and pepper, and mix well.
Shape the rolls: Deflate the dough and roll it out into a rectangle about 6 mm thick. Spread the vegetable filling evenly, then roll the dough into a log. Cut it into slices about 2.5 cm thick.
Second rise: Arrange the rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover them, and let them rise for 30 minutes.
