In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and diced onion until fully browned. Season with salt and pepper, then drain excess fat.
Step 3: Roll Out Dough
On a lightly floured surface, roll the French bread dough into a 12×18-inch rectangle.
Step 4: Add Condiments
Spread ketchup and mustard evenly over the dough, leaving a ½-inch border around the edges.
Step 5: Layer Fillings
Distribute the cooked beef over the condiments. Sprinkle with crumbled bacon and chopped pickles.
Step 6: Add Cheese
Layer the American cheese slices evenly on top of the fillings.
Step 7: Roll and Seal
Roll the dough from one long edge to the other, sealing the edges. Place seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
Step 8: Brush and Bake
Brush the top with the beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake for 20–25 minutes, until golden brown.
Step 9: Cool and Serve
Let cool for 5 minutes, slice, and serve with Thousand Island dressing for dipping.
