Health alert: Doctors warn of a new “supervirus” that could change everything!
H5N9 belongs to the family of avian influenza viruses, known as influenza A viruses. Its simultaneous presence with H5N1, another highly pathogenic strain, in the same flock raises concerns about the possibility of genetic reassortment between these viruses. This process could lead to a strain more transmissible to humans.
Experts are sounding the alarm:
Virologists, such as Dr. Angela Rasmussen, are expressing their concerns about this situation. She emphasizes that co-infection with multiple strains of avian influenza increases the risk of reassortment, which could lead to the emergence of a potentially pandemic virus. She adds that ducks, which can carry the virus without showing severe symptoms, facilitate the silent spread of the disease.
Restrictions on communication by health agencies:
In parallel with this health threat, the Trump administration ordered a communications blackout within the main federal health agencies. This directive suspends all external communications, including the publication of scientific reports, updates to official websites, and public health advisories.
This measure is raising concerns among health professionals. They fear that this restriction will hinder agencies’ ability to inform the public about emerging health threats, such as the H5N9 avian flu. Dr. Peter Hotez, a virologist at Baylor College of Medicine in Texas, emphasizes that this situation could delay the dissemination of crucial public health information.
