The common mistake everyone makes with their kettle

We use it every day, sometimes several times a day… and yet few of us know how to use it properly. Whether it’s forgetting to descale it, filling it to the brim or leaving it plugged in all the time, some seemingly harmless mistakes can shorten its lifespan – or ruin the taste of your morning tea. So are you sure you’re using your kettle correctly?
The most common mistakes we make without even realizing it
Too much water in the kettle.

This is a classic mistake! Filling above the “max” mark may seem convenient, but it’s actually risky: boiling water can spurt out of the spout and cause splashing. It also puts unnecessary strain on the automatic shut-off system and prematurely wears out the seals. The lesson of the story: only fill as much as you need.

The kettle was dry.
One careless step, one careless movement and voila! It starts boiling without water. Bad idea: the heating element heats up in a vacuum, which can damage it. The right thing to do: always check the water level before pressing the button.

Limescale, the invisible enemy.

It is often forgotten, but these whitish deposits reduce the efficiency of the appliance, increase the heating time and can even slightly change the taste of the water. Regular descaling is therefore essential (more on this below).
